I haven’t thought about it this way, but you/FAIR make an excellent and thought provoking point here. Well said!

“....Our primary suggestion to the OMB is to fully and completely cease collecting data on individuals’ race and ethnicity altogether. If race and ethnicity data is no longer collected, the OMB will not be able to implement initiatives that are based on race and ethnicity, which often serve as a crude proxy for the actual problems that need to be comprehensively addressed.

Ideally, the federal government would aspire to implement programs based on the actual needs of individual citizens that are determined based on a wide ranging set of criteria rather than based on immutable characteristics.”

Wonderful, nuanced, and thoughtful. May we move in this direction.

One of the most problematic of the woke racial and ethnic identity groups is the one called "Asian American and Pacific Islander" (AAPI) Like a lot of harmful ideas, AAPI has its roots in academia. It was then appropriated by the federal government to fit people into demographic boxes on the 1990 census. Portland, where I live, seems to have a thriving AAPI nonprofit that has a cozy relationship with the local governmental bureaucracies.

As an ethnic and racial common denominator, AAPI is self-evidently absurd. To lump, for example, Korean-, Japanese-, Chinese-, Cambodian-, Burmese- and Vietnamese-Americans together as a single interest group makes as much sense as celebrating French-, German-, Austian-, British- and Italian-American Heritage month.

In a better world, the nature and amount of government assistance a person would receive would be determined not by the racial or ethnic identity group to which they belong but on their individual needs and their socioeconomic standing.

Hi! I thought ya'll should know that I submitted a comment. I copied and pasted, but it was 650ish words over allowed count. Please fix this for others who may not have the time or ability to edit it down properly. Also, it tried to kick me out because of an improper character. Still not sure which one. I just had to grammar check. Still, some may be stopped by this.
